A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for allegedly trying to lure Amish children from a schoolyard into an outhouse.

Culminating a four-month investigation, state police in Mercer County on Friday charged Lucas A. Klobetanz, 38, of Ellwood City with luring a child into a motor vehicle. The charges stem from an incident that police say occurred last October outside the Ligo Amish School in Wilmington Township.

According to a police report obtained by the New Castle (Pa.) News, Klobetanz was seen sitting in his vehicle near the school for about 45 minutes while the children played outside. Officers said he got out of his car, entered the boys outhouse and stayed inside for several minutes while children played nearby.

The man then called out for the children to go into the outhouse, police said.

Several of them ran to a nearby house and told an adult male, who confronted Klobetanz as he was leaving the outhouse, according to the report.

He told the man that he had eaten bad food and needed to use the facility, police said. He told them he called out to the children because he had dropped the toilet paper and needed someone to pick it up.

Police said a similar incident was reported several hours earlier at another nearby Amish school, where a man fitting Klobetanz’s description entered an outhouse on school grounds.

The teacher there had ordered the children to go inside the school and locked the door, the police report said. The man left.

No charges have been filed in Lawrence County regarding that incident, police said.

Klobetanz remains in the Mercer County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
