DECATUR – The South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets basketball teams split decisions with the Georgia Perimeter Jaguars and Lady Jaguars in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division I conference match-up in Decatur on Feb. 21.

The second-ranked Lady Jets dropped an 76–88 decision to the fifth-place Georgia Perimeter Lady Jaguars in the opening contest before the third place Jets came back and captured an 87–79 win over the sixth place Jaguars.  The Lady Jets are now 14–4 in the conference and 23–7 overall.

Despite the loss, the Lady Jets remain in second place in the GCAA standings and will host Albany Tech in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII tournament on Feb. 24 at 6 P.M. in the Hangar on the SGTC Americus campus. The winner of that game will advance to the semi-finals on Feb. 27 and play the winner of Central Georgia Tech v. Atlanta Metro game at 5:30 p.m. at Darton.

The men’s win Saturday allowed South Georgia Tech head coach Douglas Byrd and his Jets to secure their 20th win in his first season as head coach. The Jets are now 12–6 in the conference and 20–9 overall. They will also have the opportunity to host a first round National Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII game on March 3. If the standings remain the same, they will host the sixth place Georgia Perimeter team in that first round action. The semi-finals and finals will be played at the higher seed site, which is currently South Georgia State College in Waycross.

In the Lady Jets loss to Georgia Perimeter, the Lady Jets fell behind in the first half 39–34. Despite a strong effort in the second half, Georgia Perimeter was still able to outscore them 49–42 before the buzzer to capture the 88–76 victory.

Sophomore Alexis “Bre” Armstrong was the leading scorer with 26 point. She was followed by freshman Deana Williams with 13 points. Sophomore TaQuandra Mike was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.  Armstrong also had 14 rebounds in that game.

In the men’s game, the Jets were up 33–32 at the end of the first half, but came back strong in the second half to widen their lead and capture the 87–79 victory.

Sophomore Brandon Jackson led the charge for the Jets with 23 points and five rebounds. He was followed by Deriece Parks, who added 17 points and Christian Nobels, who contributed 15 points and seven assists. Trey Mitchell was the only other Jet in double-figures with 13 points.

The Jets have one more game before entering the NJCAA Region XVII tournament. They will host Fort Benning on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hangar on the Americus SGTC campus.
