ELLAVILLE – The Schley County Wildcats baseball team suffered a 0-5 defeat at the hands of the First Presbyterian Day School Vikings on Feb. 20 in their second game of the season in Macon. This defeat follows a 7-4 away victory in the Wildcats’ season opener against the Perry High School Panthers.

The Vikings took an early lead in the contest, scoring three runs on their first turn at the plate. After two scoreless innings, First Presbyterian Day added two more points to cushion to their lead in the fourth frame. Neither team would score again in the match.

Brett Usry, Michael Leeder, and Chase Patrick each pitched two innings in the contest.

Usry opened the pitching, striking out three batters, giving up three hits and three earned runs before Leeder was asked to take the mound. Leeder then pitched the next two innings, striking out two batters. Patrick wrapped up the match for the Wildcats, striking out two batters and walking three. Patrick gave up a single hit and had two runs scored during his time on the hill.

The Wildcats had a tough time at the plate in the contest, with Knox Theus, Usry, and Patrick contributing the team’s only hits of the game. Each batter connected with the ball on one-out-of-three at-bats.

The Wildcats return to action on March 2, facing the Seminole County Indians in Ellaville. Schley’s boys open region play on March 5, traveling to Columbus to face the St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings.
