In a press conference held Monday morning. Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith identified the four suspects in the arson/double homicide on R.W. Jones Road Friday afternoon.

Charged with two counts of felony murder is Ruhemmeien King, 17, of Americus. Also arrested were Qwinterrious Dodson, 22, and Reginald Keith Mathis, 28, both of Americus, both charged with theft by receiving stolen property. Brandon Lenorris Prince, 21, of Americus is charged with one count of making false statements.

The Sumter County Fire Department responded to a house fire shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at 780 R.W. Jones Road in rural eastern Sumter County. The bodies of Bonnie Freeman, 54, and her son, Dallas Freeman, 33, were both found inside, having been shot multiple times, according the sheriff.

Smith said the investigation is continuing and there could be as many as 10 people arrested. He said they recovered a majority of the stolen items Sunday and the four arrests were made early Monday. Also recovered was Dallas Freeman’s pickup truck which was found abandoned at Joyce Myers Park in Americus.

Smith was asked if these crimes were related to the business dealings of Dallas Freeman, which he confirmed.

He said the cooperation between the various agencies involved has lead to the successful arrests so far. Those are the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 3 Office, State Fire Marshal’s Office and Americus Police Department. He offered high praise for all the investigators who have worked tirelessly around the clock all weekend.

Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Plez Harden said that it is too early in the process to comment, but he did say that it is the 16- and 17-year-olds walking around carrying guns who are not afraid to use them that people should be fearful of.
