Second murder suspect on way to jail

Shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Demetrious Hubbard of DeSoto, charging him with felony murder relative to the arson and double homicide at 780 R.W. Jones Road Friday.

The intensive multi-agency investigation has already lead to the arrests of four others: Charged with two counts of felony murder is Ruhemmeien King, 17, of Americus. Also arrested were Qwinterrious Dodson, 22, and Reginald Keith Mathis, 28, both of Americus, both charged with theft by receiving stolen property. Brandon Lenorris Prince, 21, of Americus is charged with one count of making false statements.

The Sumter County Fire Department responded to a house fire shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at 780 R.W. Jones Road in rural eastern Sumter County. The bodies of Bonnie Freeman, 54, and her son, Dallas Freeman, 33, were both found inside, having been shot multiple times, according the sheriff.

Smith said the investigation is continuing and there could be as many as 10 people arrested. He said they recovered a majority of the stolen items Sunday and the four arrests were made early Monday. Also recovered was Dallas Freeman’s pickup truck which was found abandoned at Joyce Myers Park in Americus.
