Southland AR students recognized

AMERICUS — The Southland Academy Lower School students recently held a Super Bowl assembly and activities. Celebrating the first semester of Accelerated Reader, the students received recognition for their successes.

The top 10 readers for the first and second nine weeks are First Graders: Cade Futch, Milly Simmons, Luke McKie, Anna Kate Joyner, Kix Dacus, Krish Patel, Sydnee Kobs, Mac McMichael, Mary-Margaret Waddell, Cohen Rogers, Reese Graft and Brianna Brown; Second Graders: Jackson Laird, Blayne Horn, Ila Johnson, Maddox Miller, Sara Beth Defenbau, Josie Israel, Braedyn Davis, Parker Davis, McGraw Minor, Jackson Avant, Barrett Starlin, Riley Fitzgerald, William Easterlin and Walker Ragsdale; Third Graders:  Krish Patel, Noah Sheff, Emily McCorkle, Mary Beth Easterlin, Landry Hart, Will Godwin, Lee Graft, Mary Katherine Saratsiotis, Sophia Blankenship, Kate Pritchett, Rushali Patel and Mia Mixon; Fourth Graders: John Henry Crisp, Lily Haugabook, Lainey Collier, Haley Everett, Macie Deriso, Mitchell Turton, Morgan Weaver, Apollo Huss, Gabrielle Bunch, Henry Johnson, and Julia Caroline Bailey; Fifth Graders: Matthew Peck, Aiden Bolton, Elizabeth Law, Alana Blankenship, Sam Pinnell, T. J. Bowden, Emma Worsley, Betsy Scott Turner, Cayce Joyner, Prey Patel, Brooke Wiesner, Madison Ellis and Caleb Law

Fifth-grade students, under the direction of Leslie Rye, AR coordinator, led the assembly. Receiving special recognition for reading over 1 million words for the first semester are Emily McCorkle, Aiden Bolton and John Henry Crisp. Also, congratulations to Noah Sheff, Krish Patel, and Matthew Peck for reading over 2 million words for the first semester. In grades 1-5, 187 students reached their goals and percentiles for the first semester. 

Southland Academy thanks the parents, grandparents and teachers for the support and encouragement of reading that they offer students. Likewise, the AR sponsors give very generously to support the AR program. Southland also thanks the AR moms for providing a time for games and pizza to celebrate the students’ successes.
