GAY — Mr. Charles Mercer Byrom Sr., 75, of Gay, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Coweta County to the late Everett E. Byrom Sr. and Christine Adcock Byrom. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by wife Dorothy Hayes Byrom, sisters Shirley Hatchett and Janice Cannon.

Mr. Byrom was a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Senoia.

He retired as a Quality Control supervisor with Atlanta Wire Works after 29 years. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan. He coached little league baseball for many years. His favorite job was being an awesome paw paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Smith and Pastor Chuck Byrom officiating. Mr. Byrom will be in the church beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta GA 30322.

Survivors include children, Charles M. Byrom Jr. and wife Kim of Gay, Lynn Clark of Gay, Chrys Byrom Gay and husband Donny of Americus, Juanita Byrom Bridges and husband Bobby of Ellaville, Lola Pifer of Newnan, Dean Byrom of Senoia, Randall Byrom and wife Laura of Newnan, Kami Byrom of Senoia; siblings, Diane Caldwell, Betty Jo Lynch, Marsha Kay Railey, Everett Byrom Jr., Jimmy Byrom, Preston Byrom; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
