Multiple people injured in Indiana I-65 crash involving tour bus

CLARK COUNTY, Ind.— Officials are working a traffic accident involving a tour bus with multiple injuries along Interstate 65, north of Henryville, Ind.

Indiana State Police Trooper Mary Sanchez said about 11 a.m. that air and ground ambulances were responding to the scene.

“There is going to be many injuries, no doubt,” Sanchez said.

Indiana Tech announced via the school’s website that the bus was carrying 16 members of its men’s and women’s bowling teams and coaching staff headed from Fort Wayne, Ind., to Tennessee for a tournament. Information was unclear on the extent of injuries. In all, 19 people were on the bus.

Clark County coroner Terry Conway said there were no fatalities at the crash scene, but multiple people were taken to area hospitals, the Associated Press reported.

Interstate 65 southbound was closed following the accident.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence issued a statement upon learning of the bus accident.

“Our hearts go out to the Hoosiers impacted by this morning’s bus crash in Southern Indiana. The state of Indiana is coordinating a multiagency response, with Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter traveling now to the area. As law enforcement and emergency personnel respond to this situation, we urge all Hoosiers to hold these men and women in their thoughts and prayers.”
