Americus Fire and Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 53 calls for medical assistance.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Forrest Street. There was no fire.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Pecan Drive which was triggered by the occupant changing batteries.

• Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Byrd Street which is under investigation.

• Firefighters responded to a natural gas leak report on North Jackson Street. They found that the occupant had struck a gas line while digging to find the sewer line.

• Firefighters responded to Hancock Drive to a report of wires down. They found a cable line and removed it from the yard and street.

• Firefighters responded to U.S. Highway 280 West to a report of a gas odor. They found an odor similar to sewage in the structure and ventilated it.

• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at McGarrah Street and North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, at Highland Drive Extension and Sharon Drive, at Rucker Street and U.S. Highway 19 North, at Upper River Road and Ga. Highway 49 North, on South Lee Street, at U.S. Highways 280 West and 19 South, and on Hawkins Street.

• Firefighters responded to Bayhill Drive to a possible structure fire where they found a burning smell. Investigation showed an overheated A/C engine.

• Firefighters responded to a detector malfunction on Pecan Drive.

• Firefighters responded to a detector malfunction at the Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St.

• Firefighters responded to electrical problems on Ridge Street where they found multiple leaks throughout the structure.

• Firefighters assisted with lifting an individual on Belinda Circle.

• Firefighters responded to a power line down on Maple Street. They found a tree across a driveway and a damaged power box.

• Firefighters responded to Lorraine Avenue to a report of a burning odor. They found no hazards.

• Firefighters responded to a smoke scare on Manhattan Street where smoke had been reportedly coming from a vehicle’s vents.

• Firefighters responded to a gas spill on Crawford Street where they placed oil dry on a small spot.

• Firefighters responded to a possible structure fire on Prince Street where a light odor was coming from a/c units. No hazards were found.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Furlow Street where they found an unattended pot left on the stove and smoke throughout the house.

• Firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak on West Church Street where they found a propane gas tank with a small leak.

• Firefighters stood by at Georgia Southwestern State University for a bonfire.

• Firefighters responded to a smoke odor on Elm Avenue where they noticed a strong burning smell from the water heater where they found a charred piece of plastic.

• Firefighters responded to a possible structure fire on Douglas Drive where they found a broken element on the stove.

• Allan Barthell, 30, of 106 Sun Valley Drive, Americus is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and driving while unlicensed.

• Antwuan K. Brown, 19, of 1093-G Knollwood Drive, Americus is charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

• Travis M. Cooks, 27, of 114 Price St., Americus is charged with terroristic threats and acts and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and was jailed.

• Lakendrick J. Davis, 29, of 255 Brookdale Drive, Americus was arrested on an outstanding warrant and is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and loitering and prowling, and was jailed.

• Larry D. Gandy, 63, of Shorterville is charged with driving while unlicensed.

• Erica S. Jackson, 35, of 1310 Second Montgomery St., Preston is charged with assault/battery and disorderly conduct.

• Tanikaya Jackson, 34, of 805 Douglas Drive, Americus is charged with assault/battery and disorderly conduct.

• Aaron E. Jeffords, 31, of 647 Ga. Highway 146 East, Americus is charged with DUI, and was jailed.

• Three juveniles were charged with theft by taking (bicycle), criminal trespass and misdemeanor criminal attempt on Fairfield Avenue.

• Keshawn D. Sampson, 18, of 310 E. Forsyth St., Americus is charged with terroristic threats and acts, and was jailed.

• Joe R. Sipe, 18, of 430 Forrest St., Americus is charged with simple assault, and was jailed.

• Martaveous K. Smith, 24, of 609 Walter Way, Americus is charged with loitering and possession of marijuana, and was jailed.

• Jeffery Waters, 34, of 426 New St., Americus is charged with aggravated assault.

• Reggie C. Jones, 18, of 140 Lonnie Lane, Apt. 217, Americus is charged with failure to obey stop sign, child or youth restraint not used properly and driving while license is suspended or revoked, and was released on bond.

• Rosalio Salvidar, 40, of 244 Loop Road, Plains is charged with misdemeanor driving without a valid license, and was released on bond.

• Firefighters responded to 32 calls for medical assistance.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on U.S. Highway 280 East which was triggered by personnel sanding inside the building.

• Firefighters responded to a grass fire on Ed Stephens Road.

• Firefighters responded to a four-wheeler fire on West Ridgewood Drive.

• Firefighters responded to a woods fire on Ga. Highway 45 North which turned out to be a controlled burn.

• Firefighters responded to grass fire at Tommy Smith Road and U.S. Highway 280 East.

• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 280 East and Brickyard Road, at U.S. Highway East and Pryor Cobb Road, on Little Bear Branch Road, on Lamar Road, at Forest Park and Ga. Highway 45 South, at Upper River and Southland roads, at Tallent Store Road and Ga. Highway 30 West, and on Ga. Highway 49 South.

• Firefighters responded to West Main Street in Plains to a report of wires down. They blocked to street to secure the scene.

• Firefighters responded to Greystone Drive to a grass fire that burned about five acres.

• Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Briarwood Circle but “it turned out to be a bust.”

• Firefighters responded to a trash fire on Rainbow Terrace.

• Firefighters responded to responded to a structure fire on North Hunter Road but nothing was found.

• Firefighters went to a residence on Flintside Drive to check an individual’s blood pressure.

• Firefighters extinguished a grass fire on Jenkins Road.

• Firefighters responded to a fire on Tallent Store Road where they extinguished a grass fire and storage shed,

• Firefighters responded to a fire on Salter’s Mill Road where they extinguished an abandoned farm house and fire grass across the road.
