Montevallo Falcons rally to take down GSW softball

AMERICUS, Ga- The Georgia Southwestern women’s softball team (8-16, 1-7 PBC) were swept Friday Night by the University of Montevallo (14-16, 4-5 PBC) at Lady ‘Cane Field.

GAME 1: GSW 1, UM 5

Montevallo scored the first run of the game but Erin Steele tied it up with triple down the left field line. Rachel McElroygrounded one out to second sending Steele home for GSW’s only run of the game. 

The Falcons scored two more runs in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to win the game 5-1.

The Lady ‘Canes finished the game with five hits, one run, one RBI and two errors.

Brittany Childs (2-2) took the loss for the Lady ‘Canes after pitching five innings. She gave up eight hits, four runs, walked five and struck out three.

Savannah Carlise pitched two innings for GSW and gave up two hits, one run, walked zero and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 10, UM12

The start of game two was deja vu. Montevallo scored the first run with a home run but Steele was able to tie it up for the Lady ‘Canes.

GSW took the lead in the bottom of the second after Haley Warner and Savannah Carlise were both walked, advanced on a bunt and both scored when Graysen Sanders hit a double to left field. Sanders scored off a single from McElroy to lead the game 4-1.

In the bottom of the third GSW got two more runs. Warner was walked again and advanced to second on a pass ball.Mary Beth Wilson got to first off a fielders choice and advanced to third when Sanders reached first on an error and Warner scored. Wilson scored off a wild pitch to lead 6-1.

Montevallo scored two runs a the top of the fifth and rallied in the sixth with five runs to take the lead 8-1. At the top of the seventh they scored four more to lead by six.

At the bottom of the seventh with two outs left the Lady ‘Canes started a come back. Steele hit a single and advanced on the throw which brought in Kendall Stanaland and Warner. GSW was down by four with two outs and two on the bag. McElroy hits one down the third base line sending Steele and  Julia Dunlap in to only trail by two. Unfortunatly Montevallo got the third out and won the game.

GSW finished the game with 11 hits, 10 runs, nine RBIs and no errors.

Haley Goodson (4-8) took the loss for the Lady ‘Canes. Goodson pitched five inning, gave up 11 hits, eight runs, walked two and struck out three.

Carlisle pitched 1.1 innings, gave up three hits, four runs and walked two.

Childs pitched 0.2 innings, gave up two hits, zero runs and walked one.

The Lady ‘Canes are on the road Monday to face Southern Wesleyan in a double header at 2 and 4 p.m.
