AMERICUS — A local man was killed Thursday night after he walked into traffic on North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

According to the accident report, filed by Trooper James Baughman, Georgia State Patrol Post 10, Americus, the accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. March 19 on MLK just south of Adderton Street.

The report says that Eli French, 62, of 214 E. Lester St., Americus, was walking east across MLK when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Accord driven by Eduardo Daniel Cortez, 23, of 105 Jasmine Drive. Americus.

Upon the trooper’s arrival on the scene, the victim had already been transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where he died.

There were no charges lodged in the accident.
