Tompkins wins the game with a home run for GSW softball

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (14-18) split with Brewton-Parker College (9-11) on March 25 at the Lady ‘Cane Field.

GAME 1: GSW 13, BP 8

Brewton-Parker College jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first. It didn’t take long for the Lady ‘Canes to respond as they scored six runs of their own in the first. GSW scored on an RBI double by Keri Tompkins, an RBI single by Lauren Thrasher, a two-run single by Chelsea Littlejohn, a steal of home by Mary Beth Wilson, and an RBI single by Erin Steele.

Thrasher hit a home run in the second to take a 7-0 lead but Brewton-Parker rallied and scored one in the fourth and six in the fifth to take the lead 13-7.

GSW scored one more run in the seventh but took the 13-8 defeat.

The Lady ‘Canes finished the game with 10 hits, eight run, seven RBI and two errors.

Savannah Carlisle (5-8) took the loss for the Lady ‘Canes after pitching 2.1 innings. She gave up seven hits, seven runs, walked one and struck out one.

Haley Goodson started first for GSW, pitching three innings. She gave up seven hits, six runs, walked three and struck out one.

Brittany Childs pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one hit, no runs, walked zero and struck out two.

GAME 2: GSW 5, BP 4

GSW outlasted Brewton-Parker College in game two after four lead changes, squeaking out a 5-4 win after 8 innings. Tompkins scored the first run after a double from Haley Warner. Goodson scored in the fourth also from Warner to take a 2-0 lead.

Brewton- Parker hit back to back home runs in the sixth to tie the game and force it into an international tie breaker where they scored two runs.

The Lady ‘Canes finally managed to grab the lead back after a three-run home run by Tompkins plating Littlejohn and Steele to take the win.

GSW finished the game with five hits, five runs, five RBIs and one error.

Brittany Childs (5-2) took the win for GSW after pitching 8 innings. Childs gave up six hits, four runs, walked three and stuck out zero.

The Lady ‘Canes are on the road this weekend. They travel to Lander University for a double header on March 28 at 2 and 4 p.m and on play USC Aiken on March 29 at 1 and 3 p.m.
