Wildcats shut down Marion, Peach County

The Schley County Wildcats baseball team traveled to Buena Vista to face long-time rivals, the Marion County Eagles on April 7. The Wildcats went home with a 13-0 victory under their belts. The team traveled to Fort Valley on April 9 to face the Peach County Trojans in a non-region contest. The Wildcats won the match 8-1.

With the wins, which mark a seven-game winning streak, the Wildcats improved their overall record to 13-3. The team’s region record is currently 7-1.

Schley’s boys jumped out early in the Marion County match. After a scoreless first inning, the Wildcats pushed across three runs in the top of the first. The Wildcats then proceeded to add four more in both the fourth and fifth innings. Schley rounded out the sweep in the top of the fifth, adding two more runs.

Mike Leeder pitched the first three innings, gaining four strikeouts before surrendering the mound to Chase Patrick. Patrick made short work of Marion’s batters during his two innings of work on the hill, gaining six strikeouts.

Clint Sellars paced the Wildcats’ offense, contributing three hits and six RBIs to the victory. Knox Theus got managed to bring in three RBIs in his two hits. Bake Howell brought in a pair of RBIs as well. Patrick got three hits.

The Wildcats returned to the diamond on April 9 for a non-region match against the Peach County Trojans in Ellaville.

The team, once again, took a commanding early lead, posting four runs in the first inning. Both teams scored in the second, and Schley put their final three runs on the board in the sixth.

Reid Ragsdale pitched the entire contest, gaining five strikeouts.

Leeder and Patrick each gained two hits in the match. Leeder, Patrick, and Theus each brought in one RBI.

The Wildcats return to region play on April 10, hosting the Brookstone Cougars before traveling to Baconton to face Baconton Charter on April 13.
