Nigel Poole, Sumter Couty EMA director, said the NOAA is advising of a storm heading into north and central Georgia Saturday.

According to the NOAA, A storm system will bring with it two potential rounds of severe weather for Saturday – one round during the morning and another for the afternoon/evening. Damaging wind, large hail and a few tornadoes will all be possible.

Storms early Saturday morning will initially move into NW Georgia and spread east and south. Storms in the afternoon again will be across both north and central Georgia. With this system it is hard to narrow down the area and although the Storm Prediction Center has the whole area under a Slight Risk with an Enhance Risk across the far north, all of north and central Georgia is vulnerable on Saturday.

Round 1 – Beginning generally after 2 a.m. Saturday morning and continuing through the morning. Round 2 – Saturday afternoon and evening.

Total rainfall amounts (Saturday-Sunday) will generally range from a half inch across the far south part of central Georgia to an inch across the remainder of central Georgia and north Georgia to an inch and a half across parts of east Georgia. Widespread flooding is not expected, but localized flooding is possible.

High confidence on severe storms occurring, however confidence on the coverage of severe storms (how many) is low.

Damage will be possible from the severe thunderstorms. In addition, localized flooding will be possible.
