Motorcyclist dies after collision with lawn mower

GEORGETOWN, Ill. — An Illinois man was killed Monday afternoon after a collision between a motorcycle and a lawn mower.

According to Vermilion County Sheriff’s Capt. Dennis Wood, the 51-year-old Georgetown resident was headed south riding a motorcycle around 2:12 p.m. when he hit a 76-year-old resident who was mowing along the rural road on a riding lawnmower.

According to police, the mowing man had pulled onto the roadway to turn around. The motorcycle rider tried to lay down the motorcycle, but was unable to avoid the accident.

The names of the the two men involved had not been released by Tuesday morning. Family members of the Georgetown man were still being contacted by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the lawnmower was taken to the hospital to be checked out, Wood said. The crash remains under investigation.
