The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., Americus.
Born Nov. 27, 1956, in Americus, Anne was the daughter of Lawrence Lee “Jack” Short Sr. and Frances Spann Short, who survive. She was a member of the last graduating class at Smithville Academy in 1975. She was a longtime member of Hebron Baptist Church, where she was honored on May 1, 1988, with “Anne Short Day” for her “faithful attendance and service” to the church.
Anne’s life was featured in a front-page article in the Americus Times-Recorder on Jan. 18, 1997, following the occasion of her 40th birthday several weeks earlier. The article spotlighted her work at the Billy Carter Museum in Plains and also highlighted the difficulties of living with spina bifida and life in a wheelchair. A tribute written by Pharis Short was handed out as a memento at a 50th birthday celebration for Anne at Hebron Baptist Church in 2006.
Her hobbies included shopping, eating out, reading, watching television and party planning. She was an inspiration to all.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include three brothers, Jackie Short of Pensacola, Fla., Randy Short of Plains and Steve Short of Americus; three nephews, Shane Short of Raleigh, N.C., Brian Short of Cumming and Jake Short of Plains; a niece, Erica Anne Short of Americus; five great-nieces and -nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Frank and Ada Spann and Clarence and Ruth Short; a dear uncle, Walter Guy Spann; and a special cousin, Susan Webb.
Flowers will be accepted. Those wishing to send a memorial can do so to: Hebron Baptist Church, 1854 Ga. Highway 49 S., Americus GA 31719.
Hancock Funeral Home on South Lee Street is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
