AMERICUS – The Georgia Independent School Association’s 2015 Class AA State Softball Championship series will be held at Georgia Southwestern State University’s Lady Canes Field on October 17.
“We are very pleased and excited to continue our partnership with the GISA,” Georgia Southwestern athletic director Mike Leeder said. “Participants and fans can expect an enjoyable experience in a first-class facility.”
The state champion will be decided in a best-of-three game series.
“Georgia Independent School Association is proud to partner with Georgia Southwestern State University in hosting the 2015 GISA Class AA State Softball Tournament,” GISA director of athletics and student services Jon Dorminey said.
This is not the first time GSW and the GISA have partnered on a post-season tournament.
“Over the years, GISA has developed a great working relationship with Coach Leeder and the GSW athletic staff,” Dorminey said. “In the past, GSW has hosted the GISA State Wrestling Tournament and multiple rounds of the GISA State Basketball Tournament.”
Lady Canes Field underwent a major renovation in 2013-14 that included the construction of a home locker room, concessions stand, restrooms, umpires locker room and press box. Elevated bleachers with seat backs were added along both baselines as well.
“This is another tremendous opportunity to showcase our softball facility, the GSW campus and the city of Americus,” Leeder said.
“As a GSW alumnus, it is exciting for me to be able to show GISA student athletes from across the state what GSW and the Americus community has to offer,” Dorminey said.
The mission of GISA is to advance excellence and collaboration among Georgia’s independent schools by serving the professional growth, advocacy and interscholastic needs of member schools.
