AMERICUS — Area residents with big appetites will be pleased to learn that the city’s 28th annual Taste of Sumter is only days away. This year’s event is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Food and fun for the whole family will be offered.
The band Slaughter Creek, featuring Patrick Cobb, Joey Recker, Tim McDonald, Steve Hulsey and Craig Shugart, will be featured. Members hail from Americus, Ellaville, Plains and Montezuma. Their popular performances include oldies, classic rock, country and Motown.
Dozens of vendors once again will participate. Food tables will be set up along Jackson Street between Lamar and Forsyth streets downtown. Admission is $5, which includes $3 in food tokens. Children age 3 and under are admitted free.
Tokens to sample the various foods cost 50 cents each. A broad array of foods from various restaurants will be represented.
In addition to the food and music, activities for children also will be available.
