ATLANTA — David Max Attell Jr., 60, of Morrow, Ga., formerly of Albany, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015,  at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.
David was born on Sept. 13, 1954, in Thomasville, Ga., to the late David and Vermell Attell. The family moved to Albany, Ga., in 1958. David attended school in the Dougherty County School system, graduating from Westover High School in 1973. After graduation David was employed by Harvey’s Supermarket, May & Co., and Nash Finch. David married Valerie Baxter on July 23, 1983. While living in Albany, Ga., David was an active member of the Albany Lions Club. David and Valerie moved from Albany, Ga., to metro-Atlanta in February 1997. At the time of David’s death, he was employed by the State of Georgia Department of Agriculture, working as a mail carrier for nine years. David was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a member of the Braves 400 Club. One of his favorite things to do was spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Diana Baxter Chapman.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Baxter Attell, Morrow, Ga.; a brother, Alan Dean Attell, Lee County, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Sybil Smith (Don), Americus, Ga., Adrienne Hamlin, (Robert), Leesburg, Ga., Donna Dorton (Howard), Statesboro, Ga., Vivian Barnes (Bill), Suwanee, Ga., Rhonda Povlot (Scott), Alpharetta, Ga.; nephews and nieces, Robert Attell, Brandon Attel; great-nephew Cole Attell, Bryan Hamrick, Franklin Smith, Amanda Barry, Brittnie Hamlin, Brady Hamlin, Mallory Sammons, Joanna Dorton, Harrison Dorton, Stewart Barnes, Alex Barnes, Zac Povlot and Libby Povlot.
The family is at the residence of Robert and Adrienne Hamlin, 144 Northwood Drive, Leesburg, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home, Albany.
