AMERICUS — Mr. Teddy Turner, 75, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Turner and the Rev. Mike Truitt officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The following gentlemen are asked serve as pallbearers: Melvin Kinslow, George Roquemore, Wade Halstead, Rod Murray, Thad Wallis, Rusty Clifton, Jeff Cavender, Ray Baldwin, Chris Holloway, Jerry McKenzie, John Newman, Joe Chestnut, Ty Kinslow and Oscar Williams.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday evening, Sept. 11, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and at other times at the family residence, 304 Shirley Road.
A native of Sumter County, he was born on Feb. 18, 1940, a son of Janie Kate Hall Turner and the late Patrick Rhodes Turner.
A graduate of Plains High School, Mr. Turner was a veteran of the Army National Guard and was an avid golfer. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and owned Staley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Turner was a home builder, spending his whole working life in this industry. He was employed by Shiver Lumber Co. for 20 years, beginning as a forklift driver all the way up to general manager of all operations. He was later employed by several wholesale distributors, and was the owner of T&M Gutters and Americus Insulation.
Survivors include his mother, Janie Kate Hall Turner of Americus; his children: Mike Turner of Auburn, Ala., Michelle Turner Mays (Mike) of Clearwater, Fla., and Patrick Ted Turner (Jennifer) of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren: Madisyn Mays, Bryan Mays, Abigail Turner and Lily Katelyn Turner, all of Clearwater, Fla.; siblings: Donnie M. Turner (Patricia) of Americus, W. Pat Turner (Deborah) of Smithville and Jane Austin Bailey (Darrell) of Americus; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death in 2001, by a brother, Gerald Turner.
