AMERICUS – On Sept. 12, Magnolia Manor hosted their annual 5k fun run with a record crowd and the largest participation since the event began 2008. Unique to this area, this year’s event was a “Glow Run” held on the Magnolia Manor campus located at 2001 South Lee Street, Americus.
238 runners and walkers made their way around Magnolia Manor’s private lake and through glowing woods with community members and volunteers cheering them on to the finish line. Since beginning, Magnolia Manor’s annual 5k has raised over $150,000 with this year’s event totaling over $22,000 in funds raised.
100 percent of the proceeds raised by Magnolia Manor events go directly to resident support. The annual fun run benefits The League of The Good Samaritan, the charitable arm of Magnolia Manor. The League was created in order to assure that Magnolia Manor stays true to its founders’ promise; “No one, having chosen to live at Magnolia Manor, will ever have to leave due to an inability to pay.” This fund directly pays for the care of residents whose funds have been depleted and otherwise would have no ability to provide for their basic needs.
Mark Todd, Magnolia Manor President and CEO states, “We deeply appreciate all who supported Magnolia Manor and The League of the Good Samaritan through this event; sponsorship, participation, volunteering or just enjoying the fun, each was vital to the success of this event. The generosity of those who gave, whether through financial resources or time, will help us continue to provide the best care possible to some of the most deserving members of our community.”
A community wide event, next year’s annual 5k fun run is already being planned for September 2016.
