AMERICUS — For the past month members of First Presbyterian Church of Americus have been saving 29 cents at each meal in special mason jars. This is the cost of a bag of food to be distributed by for Stop Hunger Now, an organization featured in a Times-Recorder article in September.
On World Communion Sunday, Oct. 4, church members turned in their collection. That afternoon, the Rev. Sommer Bower, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, lead a group of 12e members of the church to Albany where they teamed up with about 50 other Presbyterians from the Flint River Presbytery to fill 10,000 bags of food to be sent to hungry people around the world. The activity took place at the First Presbyterian Church of Albany.
