AMERICUS — Elizabeth Hayes Arthur passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at the Williams Road Church of Christ in Americus, Ga. Minister Keith Wisham will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m om Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Aldridge Funeral Services, and at other times at 149 Sylvan Ridge Road in Americus, Ga.
Mrs. Arthur was born on May 14, 1928, in Albany, Ga., the daughter of the late Ashley Elvis Hayes and the late Mabel Garrett Hayes. She was employed for 37 years in Albany, Ga., as a bookkeeper for Bob’s Candies.
Mrs. Arthur is survived by her family, three daughters: Marilyn Goodin of Americus, Ga., Benita Brown of Montezuma, Ga., and Mittie Gregory of Americus, Ga.; one son, John Arthur III and his wife Cherrie of Americus, Ga.; three sisters: Mary Louis Walls of Albany, Ga., Rachel Hampton of Houston, Texas, and Betty Jean Gause and her husband James of Sanford, Fla.L; two brothers: Wayne Hayes and his wife Cathy of Grovetown, Ga., and Andrew Hays and his wife Haitha of Wilmington, N.C. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John Arthur Jr.; her parents Ashley Elvis Hayes and Mabel Garrett Hayes, as well as three sisters and two brothers.
