AMERICUS — Halloween is fast approaching and Saturday, Oct. 31, is the big night. With an influx of hundreds of children on the streets, especially in the South Lee Street area, caution is advised.
City Manager Steve Kennedy said seven or eight extra officers with the Americus Police Department will be patrolling the streets that evening with two or more on foot patrolling the South Lee Street area.
Parents are urged to accompany their little trick-or-treaters and to start early and so they can finish early.
This is a fun time for children but safety is of utmost importance.

And don’t forget that the Americus Kiwanis Club hosts its annual Pet Parade Thursday downtown. Registration starts at 3:30 p.m. in front of First Presbyterian Church. The parade starts at 4 p.m. and prizes will be awarded in several categories afterward.

Downtown Trick-or-Treat is from 4-6 p.m. for participating downtown merchants. It’s for toddlers to age 10 and you MUST have a special wristband, which you can get in the Americus Police Department parking lot, to participate.
