PHENIX CITY – The Titan Karate Academy (TKA) competition team, dubbed Team Titan, traveled to Phenix City, AL. on Oct. 24 to test the group’s self-defensive skills against challengers from all over the southeast in the Southern Open National Martial Arts Championships.
Team Titan members participated in several divisions of the competition, including sparring, weapons, and kata (detailed patterns of movement). Each member of the team placed in each division. Collectively the team brought home five first place trophies, two second place trophies, and one third place trophy.
TKA lessons include a well-rounded blend of traditional and contemporary martial arts taught by GSW’s Dr. Mark Laughlin, associate professor of music.
The academy is located on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University. TKA provides a safe, diverse, and family-friendly environment in which each student is encouraged to reach his/her potential while developing strong character, self-discipline, respect, courage, and humility.
