Schley High student receives piano award
Ginny Calhoun, a student at Schley County High School, recently went to Agnes Scott College in Decatur where she was awarded a $400 grant from the Georgia Music Teachers Association.
She received this special award based on a written essay from her piano teacher Mark Laughlin, associate professor of Music at Georgia Southwestern State University.
The Georgia Music Teachers Association presented numerous  grants at its conference  at Agnes Scott.
Out of 40 applications Ginny Calhoun was one of those chosen to receive this special award.
Laughlin, Ginny and her mother Mary Richards attended this special presentation at Agnes Scott. After the awards were presented, the Music Teachers National Association  Competition winners performed in a recital featuring piano, violin, viola, bassoon and flute.
Not all students performed in the recital. Ginny and some other students who won this award did not perform in the recital because they were not in competition.
Congratulations Ginny and thank you Mark Laughlin for being such a great music teacher.

Ellaville Methodist choir sings at Perfect Care
The Ellaville United Methodist Church choir went to Perfect Care in Americus Nov. 5 and sang for the residents. Our choir gets so much out of going to entertain these special people. I don’t know who enjoys it the most, the residents or the choir.
Those who sang were Wayne and Nora Morrow, Jody and Donna Dillard, Judy McClellon, Barbara Usry, Judy Gattis, Jonathan Beckum, LeeAnn Morris, Olivia Mallichek, Sharon Wall, Ty Gill, Darlene Lewis and choir Director Mary Nan Pilcher.
Wayne Morrow played his harmonica and Jonathan Beckum sang and then he dismissed this special event with prayer.
