Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle return from visiting family
Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle went to different places visiting family.
They first went to Dalton to visit with Dwight’s sister, Martha McCorkle. They spent the night in Dalton, then traveled to Virginia  and spent two nights sight-seeing in the Virginia mountains and enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage.
Then they continued to see their daughter and her family,   Melissa and Nick Snyder and daughters Harper, 3 1/2  and Nellie, 2 in their new home in Silver Springs, Maryland. They spent  10 days being “Grandma and Pappy until they started home. They came back home via Santee, South Carolina.
They had a lovely time with their children and Martha as well as the scenery.

City of Ellaville  presents first Holiday Hoopla
The City of Ellaville presents its first Holiday Hoopla Dec. 1 on the square.
Children of all ages are invited to join us with the Reindeer Run-Walk from 5-5:30 p.m. inside the old courthouse. The Run-Walk begins at 5:45 p.m. T-shirts will be given to all who pre-register.
At 6:30 p.m., the lighting of the Christmas Tree and the Court house will be held. Then the Georgia Southwestern Jazz Band performs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Park.
All children of all ages are invited to come and meet the “Frozen Cast” — Olaf, Elsa, Anna — and then meet “The Grinch” and “Cindy Lou Who.”
There will be a snow machine, jumping castle, slide and much more.
The City invites everyone to come and eat and shop with us on this special night and have lots of fun. So put this date on your calendar and plan to attend.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church group goes on mission trip
On Nov. 12, a group of members from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church here in Schley County left on a mission trip, going to Top Most, Kentucky. They returned on Nov. 15.
They spent Thursday night in Lynch, Kentucky, staying in a old hospital called Solomon Porch, which has been made it into an overnight lodge with bed rooms, baths, dining room and kitchen  They estimated that the building was built around the late 1800s or early 1900s.
On Friday they drove to Top  Most where they gave away 265 backpacks to Pre-K through eighth-grade children. They had paper, pencils, pens, candy and much more in the backpacks. I was told that some children thought it was Christmas.
On Saturday they gave our clothes, blankets, and food. I heard that these people are so hungry and cold. They said some of the children asked if they had food. These people need help so badly.
You never know how blessed you are until we look on the other side of the road and see someone a little worse off than you are.  We all should thank God for all of His many blessing and be grateful for all He does for us.
They all returned home on Sunday. Those who went on this special trip were the Rev. Jimmy and Charlotte Chapman, Butch and Ilene Bullock, Oscar and Cheryl Harbuck, Stan and Linda Poole, Steve Bullock, Sheila Jones, April Jones, Maddie Jones, Hannah Fields, Berry and Janet Teele, Betty Jean Teele, Debra Coker, Terry, Belinda, Grace and Turner Layfield, and Chad, Jennifer, Ashlyn, and Conner Childs.

The Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society and I thank each and every one who supported our Thanksgiving Bake Sale last Saturday.   We surely appreciate the ones that bought some desserts as well as all of the ladies who baked these delicious desserts.
All the ladies who baked these goodies are members of the historical society and they are real good cooks. We did real well on this special event.
We especially want to thank Joel Veatch at the local Piggly Wiggly here in Ellaville for letting us have our annual Bake Sale inside the store. We all surely do appreciate your love and care for our community.
Please accept our thank you for helping us out in so many ways. All proceeds will go to preserve our history.

Don’t forget about annual Christmas Parade
I’m reminding everyone about the Ellaville Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. Dec.10. “The sweetest moments of the season are the times we share.”
The Theme this year is “A Candy Christmas.” Pick up an entry form at the City Hall. You must turn in this form by Dec. 4 to City of Ellaville.
Get your churches, clubs, organizations, schools, bands, marching units, old cars, floats, horses, walkers and more. All participants with floats, walkers, etc. must incorporate the theme along with the music, and floats as well as designed costumes. There is only one Santa Claus and he’s always in the parade. So get your floats, cars, band, walkers and more to be ready enter the Christmas Parade.

Billy and Elene McCorkle host annual Thanksgiving dinner
On Saturday, Nov. 21, Billy and Elene McCorkle hosted their annual family Thanksgiving dinner with all the family coming from far and near. All of this family looks forward to coming to this  Saturday before Thanksgiving event to enjoy family and good food.
The dining tables had a Thanksgiving runner down the center that highlighted the food . The meal was served buffet style.
They started arriving about 10:30 a.m., and dinner was served at 1 p.m. Some close relatives brought some dishes. Elene said that they really had a real good time just being with one another.
They had 36 guests. Those that attended were Nancy McCorkle of Gaston, Ala.; Roy McCorkle, William McCorkle and Emily McCorkle, all of Ellaville; Bobbie Snyder of Thomaston; Meredith and Debbie Walker of Preston; Danny and Brenda Gail Wall of Leesburg; Bill and Mary Nell (Cookie) Schueler, Dwight and Bobby Schueler, all of Macon; Bryant and Dinah Collins of Cairo and grandson Clyle Hester; Bryant Collins lll and Mandy Lotte of Baconton; Crystal and Billy Collins, Mathew Sikes, Ricky and Kelly Sawicky of Apollo Beach, Fla.; John and Rosa Sawicky and sons Jonathan, Mathew, and Jeremiah Sawicky, all of Valrico, Fla.; Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle of Ellaville; Steve and Beth Warner of Danielsville; Brian Sannon of North Carolina, Tyler Elrod of North Carolina and the hosts.
The family is already making plans for next year’s special event
