Raider wrestlers take first at Westfield tournament

PERRY – After coming close for several years, the Southland Raider Wrestling Team has finally taken home the first place trophy at the annual Westfield Wrestling Tournament, which was held in Perry on Dec. 11-12.
The Raiders defeated the host school along with second-place Windsor Academy and third-place Deerfield-Windsor, as well as Tattnall Square, John Milledge, Brandon Hall, Terrell Academy, Westwood, Stratford, Community Christian, Covenant Academy and Wewahitchka Florida.
The Raiders’ individual champions in their respective weight classes were Cole Landreth in the 106-pound division, Brandon Revell in the 170-pound division,  Stephen Turton in the 182-pound division and, in the 285 pound weight class, Stephen Barnes.
In the 120-pound weight class, Brent Allegood took second and Tanner Rundle followed in third place.
Billy Calcutt took third in the 138-pound division as did Morgan Youngdale at 170 pounds.
The teams are coached by Mike Smith and Nick McGehee. The Raiders return to action on Jan. 5 at Lee County.
