City gets three new police officers, new Council member

AMERICUS — Mayor Barry Blount swore in three new police officers at Thursday’s regular meeting. They are Joshua Greene, Quintavios Sims and William Nowell.
On the consent agenda, the Council took the following action.
• Approved contracts for services with various agencies.
• Approved a resolution designating the bank accounts and authorized check signers.
• Approved authorizing the finance director to write down miscellaneous accounts receivables.
• Approved a resolution approving the appropriation certificate for GMA lease payments in 2016.
• Approved a resolution authorizing continuing the GDOT transit contract.
• Approved appointing the Americus Times-Recorder as the legal gazette.
• Approved a resolution appointing J. Michael Greene as Municipal Court Judge for 2016.
• Ratified the processing of the purchase order and payment fior Corporate Health Partners which exceeed the approval limit of the City manager.
The Council also approved the following agenda items.
• Suspended the rules and adopted the fees for 2016.
• Approved the adoption of the 2016 budget.
• Approved the 2016 alcohol renewals and new licenses.
• Approved the intergovernmental agreement for the Americus-Sumter County Land Bank.
• Elected Council member Shirly Green Reese as mayor pro tem for 2016.
• Adopted a resolution setting the regular meetings dates and the agenda setting dates and times, unchanged from this year. The vote was Lou Chase, Carla Cook and Shirley Green Reese in favor, and Nelson Brown and Juanita Wilson against.
The Council also voted on several appointments.
• Ratified the reappointment of Bill Harris Sr. to the Americus-Sumter County Payroll Development Authority.
• Approved the reappointment of Thomas Jordan to the Tourism Council.
• Approved the reappointment of Claire Simmerson to the Andersonville Trail.
• Approved the reappointment of Nelson Brown to the River Valley Regional Commission board.
• Approved the reappointment of Shirley Green Reese to the Sumter County Board of Health.
At the end of the meeting, new City Council member Daryl Dowdell, representing District 6, was sworn in by Sumter County State Court Judge William Rambo. Incumbents Nelson Brown and Juanita Wilson were also sworn in.
