AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) encourages all area elementary, middle and high school art instructors and their students to participate in the 20th annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) student design competition. Winners have the opportunity to win cash awards and attend the Manufacturing Appreciation Week luncheon in Atlanta with the Governor.
Students from across Georgia are encouraged to submit artwork depicting the importance of manufacturing to their lives and communities as part of Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW).  MAW was developed by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education and the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
The deadline to enter the Student Design Competition is Friday, Jan. 15, and all entries should be submitted to South Georgia Technical College, Attention Su Ann Bird, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, 900 South Georgia Tech Parkway, Americu, GA 31709.  On the back of all artwork, include: the student’s name, the school’s name, the school’s phone number, and South Georgia Technical College in the upper-right had corner on the back of each submitted entry.
Entries must comply with the guidelines established by the Technical College System of Georgia. Art may be computer-generated or created with paint, watercolors, pencils, markers, crayons, charcoal, etc. but should be completely dry before shipping/delivery. Size for artwork is 11” by 17.” All work must be flat and 3-D objects cannot be glued or pasted to submissions. Please note that designs will not be returned to contestants.
SGTC has submitted winning entries from local elementary and middle schools for nine of the past 10 consecutive years.Allie Bodrey and Tessa Nipper of Crisp County Elementary School received second place and honorable mention places in the grades K-5 competition in 2015. Indira Zelava, a fourth-grader from Sarah Cobb Elementary School in Americus received an honorable mention award in 2014.
Raziel Cruz, a second-grade student from L.K. Moss Elementary School in Marion County, was honored in 2012, for his third-place entry and Miranda Paige Gibson, a first-grade student from L.K. Moss Elementary School in Marion County, and Makayla McKee, a fifth-grade student at Macon County Elementary School were honored in 2011 for their second- and third-place winning entries.  Crystal Anna Dixon, a fourth-grader from L.K. Moss Elementary School in Buena Vista, won third place in the placemat competition in 2010.                                                                                   Kaitlin Brown of Montezuma, a student at Southland Academy, was a local winner in 2009, and then in 2007 and 2008, Sarah Cobb Elementary School had winning entries. Kavian DeAndre Harris finished in second place in 2008 and Tywun Jackson took first place in 2007.
Temeka Sada Denmark of Staley Middle School in Americus was a winner in the poster competition in 2006.

Students from elementary, middle and high schools in Sumter, Crisp, Macon, Marion, Schley, and Webster counties are eligible to participate.
