AMERICUS — Mrs. Geraldine Athon Watts, 93, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2016, at Perfect Care.
Mrs. Watts was born Feb. 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Athon and Lillie Gladys Justice Athon. She was a seamstress at Manhattan Shirt Factory and The Tog Shop and was also a past greeter for Walmart.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers will be Wilkie Smith, Danny Minick, Freddy Athon, Larry Dillard, Sammy Lee and Elton Sharpe. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. At other times friends may call at the residence of Louise Warren, 337 Daniel St., Americus. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Perfect Care, 114 Sullivan Drive, Americus GA 31709; Lee Street Methodist Church, 1102 S. Lee St., Americus GA 31709 or Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus GA 31709.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Elaine Watts of Leesburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Terrell and Edith Athon of Americus; four grandchildren, Bobby Hale and Chris Hale of Americus, Kelli Hooper (Carter) of Ashville, N.C., and Kristi  Gage (Aaron) of Decatur; five great-grandchildren, Austin Hale, Hayden Hooper, Warren Gage, Anna Gage and Hadleigh Hooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Evans Watts; a son, Thomas Evans Watts; a daughter, Gail Watts Hale; a grandson, David Stanley Watts; two sisters. Martha Kate Dillard and Earline Kizer and two brothers, Bill Athon and Howard Athon.
