AMERICUS — The seniors at Americus-Sumter High School (ASHS) participated in Apply to College Day. The program focuses on providing assistance to first generation and economically disadvantaged students as they navigate the college application process. Vickie Austin, College Connection specialist from South Georgia Technical College, assisted with organizing the day, along with Kim Merritt and Sandra Wolcott, counselors at ASHS.
This annual event originally started with one week set aside to assist students with their college applications. Apply to college day at ASHS was very successful, with over 100 students participating.
The event is sponsored by Georgia Apply to College, Communities in Schools, the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia, and endorsed by the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (GACRAO).
