AMERICUS — The South Georgia Technical College Americus chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) recently wrapped up another successful “Season of Giving” — a series of fundraisers to benefit community individuals in need. The drive kicked off in November for a Thanksgiving food drive, which collected non-perishable food items for those in need. The Americus-Sumter County High School Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), PBL’s high school level partnership organization, collected the most food items with a total of 208. SGTC’s cosmetology department collected the second most items and SGTC’s General Core department collected the third most. A total of 517 canned food items were collected.
PBL also participated in a Toys for Tots drive, where packaged toys were collected and donated to the Sumter County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS). SGTC’s business technology program collected the highest number of toys with seven total items, followed by the cosmetology program and the Criminal Justice Technology program. Sixteen toys in total were collected and donated to DFACS.
A total of 51 trauma bears were also collected for children in trauma situations. The Macon County High School chapter of FBLA collected the highest number of trauma bears with 17, followed by SGTC’s business technology and criminal justice programs.
Other programs who donated to these causes included SGTC Odom Center staff, air conditioning technology program, medical assisting program, practical nursing program, and student activities staff.
