AMERICUS —  In December, Historic Campbell Chapel Restoration Project Inc. Vice Chair Ricky Arnold presented Jeffrey Lewis, a graduate of Americus High School, with a plaque honoring Lewis for his accomplishments after leaving Americus.
Lewis has performed on the Tyler Perry Series and the Oprah Winfrey Show. More recently, he appeared on America’s Got Talent competition.
At the ceremony here, Arnold read the following from the plaque inscription: “Presented to Jeffrey Lewis, former member of Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Concert & Gospel Choir. We wish you God’s speed as you continue to uplift the world with your talent. From members of the Historic Campbell Chapel Restoration Project Inc.”
Lynn Tyson, former mentor and pianist/accompanist, nurtured Lewis during his early years at Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church, and introduced him to several churches throughout the surrounding counties. Tyson explained that he will be glad when Campbell Chapel is restored and he can again play the piano and organ, giving praise to the Lord.
