AMERICUS — Mrs. Merlene Lloyd Frazier, 93, of 2496 Ga. Highway  195 North, Americus, Ga., went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan.  29, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Golden will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday in the Fellowship Hall at Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Frazier was born March 7, 1922, in Ochlocknee, Ga., a daughter of the late Carl E. and Nona Willingham Lloyd. She was a graduate of Moultrie High School. Merlene was united in marriage to Wilbur Lee Frazier on Dec. 24, 1942, in Americus, Ga. They were married for 67 years before his death on Jan. 12, 2010, Merlene taught school at Chambliss School and later retired from Manhattan Shirt Co.
In her youth, Merlene was a member of New Bethel Church in Meigs, Ga. She served as director of the Young Peoples Department and enjoyed playing the piano for the church. She joined Bethel Baptist Church after moving to Americus, where she taught Sunday School, Girls Auxiliary, kept the nursery and was the social chairman of the Mary Frazier Missionary Circle. She was a member of the Young at Heart and enjoyed traveling with the group. Merlene loved cooking, flower gardening, traveling and her church.
Merlene is survived by one daughter, Joan Johnson (Jon), and one son, Claude Frazier (Faye). Preceding her in death was a sister, Eunice G. Palantino of Rome, New York, and a brother, Carl E. Lloyd of Leslie.
