Hobby named SGTC Student of Excellence

AMERICUS — Joseph Hobby, a South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) aviation maintenance technology student from Americus, was named SGTC Student of Excellence during the college’s recent student recognition ceremony held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus.
Hobby received a plaque of recognition and a financial award from SGTC for his accomplishments. He was nominated for this honor by SGTC aviation maintenance technology instructor Charles Christmas.
“Joseph has excelled since he started here at South Georgia Tech,” said Christmas. “Everything he does is always at the highest level.”
Hobby thanked his instructors for the recognition and the opportunity to represent the aviation maintenance program.
Each month, students from certain divisions selected for that month are nominated for the Student of Excellence award by their instructors. This month’s ceremony recognized students in transportation programs at SGTC. The winner is selected based on a number of criteria, including grades, work ethics, participation in clubs and organizations, and amount of program completion. Each nominee is presented with a certificate and a SGTC Student of Excellence T-shirt.
Other nominees included JaQuavious Leary of Oglethorpe, aircraft structural technology; William Rigby of Oglethorpe, auto collision repair technology; Plezy Nelson of Americus, automotive technology; Charles Butler of LaGrange, diesel equipment technology; and Alfredo Rodriguez of Fort Valley, motorsports vehicle technology.
Additional nominating instructors included Mike Reaves, aircraft structural technology; Starlyn Sampson, auto collision repair technology; Brandon Dean, automotive technology; Craig Kelly, diesel equipment technology; and Kevin Beaver, motorsports vehicle technology.
