ATLANTA – The Southland Academy men’s swim team competed at the GISA State Swim Meet in Atlanta on Jan. 30 and won their third consecutive state title.
This year’s team members are senior, Josiah Copland; junior, Brinson Hubbard; and sophomores, Sam Usrey and Sam Copland. Together, these Raider swimmers finished in first place in the 200-yard medley relay at the state meet.
In a press release from Southland Academy, Southland swim coach, Tim DeMott said, “We had a mid-season meet in Atlanta where the guys did really well. Coming out of that meet, we felt like we had a chance to compete for the title. The guys sensed that they could and worked extremely hard to get there. We had to win both relays in order to have a chance and we did. In all of my years coaching swimmers, I’ve never had four guys win a state title. I’m very proud of them.”
