Ellaville-Schley Chamber of Commerce elects officers, board members
On Jan. 19, the Ellaville -Schley County Chamber  of Commerce  elected officers and board members  at their regular Chamber meeting.
Officers are: Jerry  Cook, president; Jason Hosh, vice president; Leah Clark, secretary and Kay McCarty, treasurer. Board members are Duane Montgomery, Shawn Foltz, Kathy Bruer, Sheila Bivins and Paige Peavy.
All officers will hold their positions for one year. All board will serve for three years with some rotating off the board each year
The Chamber sponsors Springtime Ellaville every spring.

Congratulations to Schley High’s FBLA
Congratulations to Schley County High School’s FBLA for winning second place in this year’s Region competition. These students competed against 14 other schools and 20 of our students will be advancing to State competition to be held March 6-8 in Athens.

We all here in Ellaville and Schley County congratulate our Schley County  High School’s FBLA students on a job well done.

Schley County Family Connection holds monthly  meeting
On Jan. 28, the Schley County Family Connection held its monthly meeting at noon at the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191  American Legion.
John Greene opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. Pascal Hollis asked the blessing. A delicious meal  was served before the meeting.
There were two guest speakers. Gerald Mixon of the River Valley Regional Commission, Americus, opened by telling that he had met with the City and County here trying to find out how we can better our community as a whole. He asked for questions, suggestions and more. There was a lot of input on the comprehensive plan for Ellaville and Schley County and much discussion which really makes a difference.
The second guest was Bill Sawyer, Schley County administrator, who spoke about the roundabout that will be constructed on the new U.S. Highway 19 North and South and Ga. Highway 26 East and West. Bill had a map and showed how to use this new road system, crossing these highways correctly. He said that the DOT should start sometime this summer.
Others making reports were the following. Wayne Morrow Sr. reported on the Lions Club and what they are doing to help the community. Pascal Hollis reported on the American Legion and about Boys State and more. Nancy McMath Young reported on the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society and what’s been done the last year. Karen Albritton reported on the Lighthouse  Children’s Advocacy. She said they are having Open House Feb. 16 in Americus. Linda Adams reported on the Schley Community Foundation and how they are in need of finances for playground equipment. Kirsty Smith, Schley County’s Health nurse, reported  that she can draw blood from any doctors’ orders and they will go directly to the doctors. Flu shots are still available.
Stephen Woodson reported on his position as Schley County’s Truancy Officer. He said he had been doing this for 13 years and he has not seen a middle and high school so good and nice and not having any trouble. Brenda Welch gave her report on the 4-Her’s and their projects and different projects. She’s with the Schley  County Cooperative Extension Office. Adam Hathaway, Schley County School superintendent, reported that the school system has earned some special recognition that will be announced later.
There were 28 present at the meeting.

Special birthday celebration held
On Jan. 29, there was a very special birthday celebration for Mildred Dobbs as she celebrated her 84th birthday with her family, who took Mildred to Columbus to Ezell’s Restaurant.
Those that attended were Bobby Lynn Usry, Dan and Brenda Todd, Jason, Haley and Coleman Dobbs, Nicolas, Shelby and John Smith, Gail Smith, Davis and Ashley English and children Kaedon and Waylon English, Bo and Mazzie Usry and the honoree Mildred Dobbs
