ASHS wrestlers take first, fourth at region meet

CAIRO – The Americus-Sumter High School (ASHS) varsity wrestling team competed in the Area 1AAAA wrestling match on Jan. 29 Cairo High School in Cairo.
ASHS’ Jarvis Berry took top honors as the area champion in the 106-pound weight class at the meet. Montrellis Wilson, in the120-pound weight class; Trendric Ingram, in the 182-pound weight class; and Donald McCook in the heavyweight class, each brought home a fourth-place finish from the meet.
As a team, the Panthers finished in seventh place in the match out of ten teams competing. The student athletes qualified for sectionals which were held at Gilmore County High School in Elijay on Feb. 5-6.
After the meet’s conclusion, ASHS wrestling coach, Thomas Prater, told the Times-Recorder in a press release, “I would like to congratulate these young men on their performances as they have put in a lot of work to achieve these accomplishments.”
