AMERICUS — The Americus City manager has narrowed the field of candidates for the position of police chief to three candidates: Edward P. Reynolds, Mark A. Scott, and Larry E. Wilson. Edward Page Reynolds currently serves as the chief of police for Forest City Police Department in Forest City, Arkansas. He began his law enforcement career in 1995, with the New Haven Police Department in New Haven, Connecticut. He holds a master of science in education from the University of Bridgeport; is Connecticut Post Certified; a graduate of FBI Police Executive Command College and the FBI Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Training. Mark A. Scott began his law enforcement career in 1989, with the Thomasville Police Department. He formerly served as a deputy chief with the Albany Police Department. He holds a master of public administration from Columbus State University; a master of science in sociology from Valdosta State University; and a bachelor of fine arts degree in communication from Valdosta State University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Larry E. Wilson retired from the Suffolk Police Department in Suffolk, Virginia in December 2012, as deputy chief where he began his law enforcement career in 1981, as an officer. He  holds leading, educating and development training from Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service University of Virginia; is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Chesapeake Public Safety Academy. City Manager, Steve Kennedy, stated that these three candidates have the experience and education to perform the job of police chief for the City of Americus. He will be making a decision soon. A public forum has been scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Russell Thomas Jr. Public Safety Building to meet the candidates for police chief. Citizens will be able to hear from each candidate and also ask questions in an open meeting forum.
