David and Lois Theiss attend daughter’s wedding in Colorado
On March 9, Mayor David and Lois Theiss and their son Gabe Theiss, his wife Anita and their children Bowden and Callie Theiss all flew to Arvada, Colorado, for Heida Theiss’ marriage to Chris Falletta of Colorado, at 7 p.m. March 11 at Red Rocks Church.
The Bride wore a lovely long white wedding gown and carried a bouquet of flowers, and was given in marriage by her father.
Anita Theiss sang “Love Lifted Me.” Gabe Theiss served as the groomsman.
Bowden Theiss served  as ring bearer and Callie Theiss was flower girl.
A lovely reception followed n the church Social Hall.
The Ellaville Theisses returned home March 14.

Schley County Board of Health meets
On March 16, the Schley County Health Board had its quarterly meeting.
Chairman David Theiss called the meeting to order.
Dr. Beverly Townsend, District director, gave her report, announcing the state’s 87th Annual GPHA Meeting and Conference March 22-23 in Atlanta. She reported on the  Zika Virus and that it is carried by mosquitoes. She also showed a video awards received by the District.
Schley County’s Health Nurse Kristy Smith gave her report on some of her activities such as speaking at the school on different subjects, immunizations and the upcoming event on Ebola Training.
Joanne Strickland, District administrator, shared information with board members on “A Guide To Serving On The County Board of Health.”
Berta Cox also reported on the health department’s financial status.
Jane Arnold reported no inspections since the last meeting and that  all regular inspections are fine.
Board members present were Theiss, Nancy McMath Young, Larry Wall and Kay Royal. The next meeting is June 15.

History of the year you were born
On March 10, Bobby Young celebrated his 75th birthday and received a special birthday card from his insurance agent, citing events that occurred during the year of his birth, 1941.

Springtime Ellaville is April 9
The Ellaville-Schley County Chamber of Commerce sponsors Springtime Ellaville on April 9, in downtown. The theme is “There’s No Place Like Home.”
There  will be a 50/50 Raffle, games, Boot Scoot Color Run 1 mile & 5K Run/Walk, a Corn Hole Tournament, arts, crafts, food booths, entertainment, a Car Show and a Parade.
The big entertainment starts at 7 p.m. with Andy Miller, followed by Nashville recording artist Brent Cobb. Tickets are available for all activities, starting with the Race that morning at 7:30 a.m., at Ellaville Floral Shop. For tickets to the evening events, go to People’s Bank and Red Hill Outdoors of Americus. Tickets are $15/advance and $20/day of.

Schley County Middle-High School dedicates new  baseball field
On Saturday the Schley County Middle and High School Baseball Field was dedicated after having been renovated. The field was dedicated in memory of John Gill, who was a big supporter along with others.
The iron fence will be finished soon.
The baseball coaches — Chuck Cheek and Jody Sellars — spoke as well as Principal Todd West and Superintendent Adam Hathaway. Afterwards a ribbon cutting ceremony was held.
