AMERICUS — Mr. William “Willis” Meeks, age 85, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.
Funeral services are planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bryan Bentley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, and from noon-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Friends may also visit the family at Michael Meeks’ home at 244 McMath Mill Road, Lot 1 in Americus and at Mary Ann Norman’s home at 1416-B N. Lee St. in Americus. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as active pallbearers: Frank Hatfield, Mike Belcher, Marty Highnote and Jimmy Guy. The grandchildren are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born Oct. 17, 1930 in Vienna, Ga.,, he was a son of the late W.C. Meeks and Minnie Ole Williams.
Mr. Meeks was a welder, having been employed by Greenville Metal & Champion Homes and was an active member of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Gloria Ann Meeks; by his wife, Julie Stevens Meeks; by his son, Billy Meeks; and by his brother and sisters: John L. Meeks, Mabel Faircloth, and Pearl Franklin.
Survivors include three sons: Johnny Meeks of Gray, David Meeks (Dawn) of Lizella, and Michael Meeks (Julie) of Americus; one daughter, Mary Ann Norman (Jerry Harrison) of Americus; grandchildren: Steve Norman, Wanda Thomas, Kasey Meeks, Maxwell Kelly, Missy Jordan, Gwen Strickland (Timmy), Jessica Nobles, Matthew Meeks (Rachel) and Jason Meeks and his wife; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
