AMERICUS — Robert Earl Herrington, Ph.D., age 68, of 263 Murphy Mill Road died at his residence on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. He was born on Dec. 5, 1947, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of the late Olen Earl Herrington and Mary Anne Knight Herrington.  Dr. Herrington was a professor in the Biology Department at Georgia Southwestern State University for 30 years. He was a member of the Georgia Reptile Society and the Gopher Tortoise Council. He retired from Georgia Southwestern State University in December 2015, with 30 years of service.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wendy Peacock officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Gopher Tortoise Council at 303 Main Street #341, Safe Harbor FL 34695 or the Sumter Humane Society at 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus GA 31709.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Herrington of Americus; two daughters, Miranda and Angel Nunez of Warner Robins and Monica Hyatt of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Robert L. Herrington of Martinez; and five grandchildren, Logan Herrington, Jack Herrington, Nick Herrington, Isabella Nunez and Sam Nunez.
