COLUMBUS — Matthew Lamar Carey, 40, of Columbus, Ga., formerly of Montezuma, Ga., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Montezuma United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Caldwell and the Rev. Hank Steverson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
Mr. Carey was born May 23, 1975, in Tallahassee, Fla., to Dennis Lamar Carey and Sara Knight Carey. He was a graduate of Macon County High School in Montezuma, Ga., and The Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Atlanta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Lynn Wilkins.
Mr. Carey is survived by his parents: Dennis and Sara Carey of Cobb, Ga.; two brothers and their wives: Doug and Gretchen Wilkins of Kathleen, Ga., and Benjamin and Johnna Carey of Cobb, Ga.; paternal grandmother, Betty Carey Hodges of Athens, Ga.; and five nieces and nephews: Jordan Wilkins of Statesboro, Ga., Amanda Wilkins and Jake Wilkins, both of Kathleen, Ga., and Bennett Carey and Scarlett Carey, both of Cobb, Ga. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Paula Rosenberg of Columbus, Ga., and her two children, Rayce and Mirabella.
