Shariah Symone’ McKenzie and Jontu Solomon, both of Atlanta, were united in marriage at 2 p.m. Dec. 20, 2015, at the Rylander Theatre in Americus.
The bride is the daughter of Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie of Americus and Garbowski McKenzie of Byromville.
The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Ronrica Gordon.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a satin and English net gown featuring a strapless sweetheart neckline, a fitted and slightly dropped waist bodice with boning details and intricate Swarovski crystal embellishment and a full tulle skirt with a chapel-length train. Her veil was cathedral length with diamond crystals. She carried a bouquet of white calla lillies, hydrangea and white roses.
Ashleigh Epps was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Ariel Hayes, Brandy Cooks, Danielle Baker, Elena Bryant, Elita Bundrage, Keandra Lusane, Miriam Bryant, Morgan Freeman, Octavia Lusane Williams, Quanda Foster and Shantell Solomon.
They wore dresses fashioned of soft layers of draped net with a sheer, single shoulder strap, scooped neckline and gathered waistband.
Junior bridesmaids were Kiara Harris, Makayla Solomon, Megan Cross, Shaviar Solomon and Telisha Cook.
Serving as flower girls were Lauryn Lusane of Americus and Alexandra McKenzie of Warner Robins. Korneal Barker was ring bearer.
Carmetrick Ross served as best man. Groomsmen were Jaime Abrego, Kelsey Solomon, Darius Pines, Ernest Wade Bowers, Owen Omokaro, Eric Finch Jr., Andy Lafontant, Nekose Thornton, Lavon Bryant and Kelvin Oliver Jr.
Junior groomsmen were Marcus Lusane, Joshua Lusane, Sage Finch, Braxton Cross and Sean Harris. Markondus Thornton was usher.
Wedding music included: “I’ll Be Loving You,” “Nothing Even Matters,” “Lay Me Down,” and “I Think I Want to Marry You.” Organist was Walter Dennard of The Essence Band. Shannon Gordon sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Hallelujah.” Maurice Bell was deejay. Michelle Gibson, flutist, gave a special tribute to the grandparents of the couple. Bridgette Burton gave an opening poem.
The bride and groom “jumped the broom” when the minister presented them as husband and wife.
The bride’s mother wore a floor-length evening gown with a crystal and pearl-detailed bodice and a full-length train. The groom’s mother was attired in a gold full-length dress with full straps featuring a diamond brooch.
A reception was held immediately after the ceremony at the Lake Blackshear Golf and Resort Club kept the bride’s book.
Latoya Cutts was wedding planner. Tisha Coleman, Shirhanda Solomon, LaKeisha Colbert, Janel Allen and Shantell Phillips served as hostesses, and Tangalia Robinson, Latwinthia Tarver Rhymes, and the bride’s and groom’s aunts were special helpers.
Other wedding participants included Shannon Gordon, Michelle Gibson, Bridgette Burton, Friendship Praise Dancers, and Phares Taylor and the held Dec. 19 at the Masonic Lodge in Ellaville, hosted by the groom’s mother.
After a wedding trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple is making their home in Atlanta where the groom is a medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine, and the bride is a student at Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and will graduate in May.
