Lady Hurricanes swept by Flagler in season-closing series, finish 24-32

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) softball team went scoreless in a pair of games against Flagler College on April 17 at Flagler Field to bring the Lady ‘Canes’ 2016 season to a close.
The Lady Hurricanes suffered a 4-0 defeat in the series opener before going on to drop a 6-0 decision in their final showdown of the year.
GSW finished the season 24-32 overall and 7-17 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) while Flagler improved to 24-25 overall and 9-15  in the PBC.
The first match-up of the afternoon saw Flagler push two runners across the plate in the initial inning off of a pair of singles. The Lady Saints scored again in the second frame off of an error to lead by three runs.
Flagler managed to hold off GSW from scoring and plated one more in the sixth to take the shutout win.
GSW finished with three hits, no runs, no RBIs, and four errors.
GSW’s Joshlyn Martin collected a pair of hits for the Lady ‘Canes while Nikki Graham connected on the third.
Brittany Childs (L, 7-11) pitched six innings, facing 30 batters. Childs gave up eight hits and four runs while walking one batter and striking out another.
The Lady ‘Canes were unable to turn their luck around in the evening’s nightcap as Flagler scored one run in the first inning off of a double. The Lady Saints added another run in the third stanza off a sacrifice fly and one in the fifth off an error. The Flagler ladies pushed three more across the plate in the sixth off a double and a single and held off GSW from scoring to take another shutout win.
GSW finished with three hits, no runs, no RBIs, and one error.
Erin Steele gained two hits for the Lady Hurricanes and Haley Warner connected on the third.
Haley Goodson (L, 9-14) pitched six innings, facing 31 batters. Goodson gave up eight hits and six runs. Goodson walked five batters and struck out four.
