“At South Georgia Technical College, we’re all about student success,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford at the college’s Honors Day student recognition program, held recently in the James S. Peters Gymnasium on SGTC’s Americus campus.
The program recognized student achievement, participation in clubs and organizations, community service, and athletic achievements of South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) student body over the past year. Advisors for SGTC’s clubs and organizations, administrators, and other faculty and staff recognized club officers, awards won by students at state, local, and national competitions; the Student of Excellence winners for the last year, athletics and intramurals, student activities, and campus life.
For both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses, the following student organizations and entities were recognized: the Student Government Association (SGA), the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), campus activities, Phi Beta Lambda, SkillsUSA, the Jets and Lady Jets basketball teams, Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), and Rick Perkins instructor of the Year.
Ashley Rodgers, state GOAL winner for 2016, also addressed the crowd, thanking her instructors, advisors, and fellow students for their support during her journey to win the state GOAL title for the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) in Atlanta earlier this month. Rodgers, who is a member of several of the clubs and organizations recognized at the program, explained how each of the student organizations she was a member of shaped and molded her into the leader she is today, encouraging her fellow students to become more active in student life at the college and strive for excellence.
Honors Day is an annual event at SGTC, held shortly before spring commencement exercises. SGTC’s graduation ceremony was held on, May 12. 140 SGTC graduates were recognized and walked across the stage to receive their diplomas and degrees.
SGTC is currently registering students for summer semester, begins June 6, 2016 on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses. There will be a registration on June 2, 2016.
SGTC has a one-stop admissions process that allows students to apply, enroll, and register in the same day. Students also need to apply for financial aid as soon as possible if they have not already done so.
