From STAFF REPORTS

AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and the Kiwanis Club of Americus are planning to co-sponsor a merit badge camp for Boy Scouts this summer on the GSW campus and at other sites in the Americus area. GSW is providing the facilities and the Kiwanis Club of Americus is covering the cost of the camp. Some of the merit badges have a limit for the number of scouts that can register for them. If a scout registers for a merit badge with a limit and then is not able to attend, he should let Jay Cliett know as soon as possible so that scouts on a waiting list can be added. Scouts wanting to register for a merit badge must do so at least three days before the merit badge training begins. The dates of the merit badge workshops and the room numbers are listed below. Participants should report to the room in which the merit badge workshop will be held on the first day that the merit badge workshop is scheduled. The following merit badges are being offered:
Astronomy –  Counselor: Sam Peavy, professor of geophysics at GSW. Campers meet from 1-4:00 p.m. June 1 and 2 in room 305 of the Roney Building at GSW and from 9-10:30 a.m. June 2 at the Observatory located on top of the Roney Building at GSW. Limited to 20 scouts.
Citizenship in the Community –  Counselor: Wade Barr, retired from the administrative staff at Magnolia Manor. Campers meet from 10:00-11 a.m. June 9 and 30  in room 305 of the Roney Building at GSW and attend a meeting of the Americus City Council from 5-6 p.m. June 23.
