Suspect arrested in Americus murder investigation

AMERICUS – One individual was found dead in an Americus Police Department investigation, following a homicide report in the early afternoon of May 19.
The investigation was conducted at 929 Ridge Street in Americus.
According to a press release received from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the man killed has been identified as Cliff Jones, age, 28, of Americus.
According to the release, another individual identified as Vanessa S. Charles, age 26, was kidnapped from the scene and later discovered in Lee County.
Following the report of the crime, Americus Police Department, the GBI, and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department asked the community for help in locating the suspect; Timothy Antawn Myrick, 31, of 143 Cherokee Street, Americus.
Myrick was arrested and detained later that afternoon in Lee County.
He was then transported back to Sumter County, where he had warrants for his arrest, charging him with murder, kidnapping, rape, and cruelty to children in the third degree.
The investigation is ongoing.
