AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) head women’s cross country coach, Brittney Skiles, recently announced her resignation as she has accepted an offer to become the assistant men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Truett-McConnell College.
Skiles completed her fourth season at the helm for the Lady Hurricanes in 2015.
“It has been a great experience and I’m going to miss everyone there,” Skiles said. “I’m very grateful and thankful for the opportunity to have coached at GSW the past four years.”
All of the program’s Top 10 fastest times in both 5k and 6k races have been posted under Skiles’ tutelage.
“We are going to miss Brittney’s passion for the sport and her commitment to improving our program,” GSW athletic director Mike Leeder said. “I appreciate all of her hard work and wish her continued success at Truett-McConnell.”
Skiles coached the Lady Hurricanes to one team victory and nine second place finishes during her tenure at GSW.
“I wish everyone the best in their upcoming endeavors,” Skiles said. “I had a really great group of athletes. They made my job easy as a coach.”
Under Skiles leadership the Lady Hurricanes made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship in 2013, then again in 2014 and 2015.
“The hardest part about leaving is leaving the athletes,” Skiles said. “I wish them the best.”
